Episode 15: Enemy of My Enemy March 5, 2014

OK This show just gets better and better. I hope it gets picked up for Season Two. If you are behind WATCH NOW and catch up ... SPOILER ALERT BELOW...

Classic!!! When hero avoids responsibility, bad things happen. We have two heroes in Stephen and John. Cara is more die hard encampment military leader than hero, right. But John painting the town red with Astrid leads to the tomorrow People being vulnerable. And when Charlotte goes looking for John, all are exposed wide open.

Julian is back. Are not most characters named Julian bound to be bad? Jedikiah implants a bomb in Julian's head. Find Tomorrow People or die trying. So as the title lends it's name, two enemies align for a common cause. But Julian is not to be trusted. Show down at the OK Corral is replaced by Showdown at the local Grocery Store after hours. Stephen is fooling no one though when he secretly stops Julian from killing Cara.

Julian instead captures Charlotte, mentally tortures with telepathy, learns the TP hang out (Love typing those words TP hang out LOL) and takes Kill squad...

But TPs get the upper hand. AND BOOM!!! No more Julian. OUCH. Wonder who has to clean that up... Hey Charlotte, now that we have saved you twice now... Grab a mop!!!

Original John from BBC Tomorrow People (1973-1979) appearsin New production

Educated at preparatory school followed by The Corona Stage School, Nicholas Young was already in his early 20s when he auditioned for the role of "John" in The Tomorrow People (1973). Prior to landing the role, he appeared in The Children's Film Foundation production Eagle Rock (1964), the little-remembered television series The Flying Swan (1965) and Front Page Story (1965), Upstairs, Downstairs (1971) and a number of one-off television plays including The Wednesday Play: The Connoisseur (1966), directed by Waris Hussein (whose credits include the first ever Doctor Who).

In addition, while working on The Tomorrow People he featured in the two-part Space: 1999 (1975) story The Bringers of Wonder (the first broadcast on August 4, 1977) as Peter Rockwell, and, in the same year, played alongside Jon Pertwee (the 3rd incarnation of Doctor Who) as a young gangster called Legs Luigi in the film Adventures of a Private Eye (1977).

Young was the only cast member to stay with The Tomorrow People (1973) for its entire six year run. After its conclusion in 1979, he appeared in numerous other programs including the series Kessler (1981), and Cymbeline (1982) (part of the BBC Shakespeare series); perhaps more famously he appeared as a Jeremy Beadle stooge in over 40 sketches for Game for a Laugh (1981) and Beadle's About (1986). More recently, he has worked as a theatrical agent, representing, among others, Philip Gilbert. The two were reunited once again in 2001, as they reprised their roles as John and TIM for the new Tomorrow People audio adventures released by Big Finish Productions. - IMDb Mini Biography By: Gene Simon

Episode 9: Death's Door

Episode 9: Death's Door December 11, 2013
IMDB SUMMARY When John finds himself in a dangerous situation, Stephen is unable to help without revealing himself to Ultra. Not satisfied with the answer he has discovered about his father's disappearance, Stephen decides to take drastic measures with the help of his fellow Tomorrow People to find out the truth. Meanwhile, Cara and Russell negotiate a trade with Jedikiah, which ultimately makes Jedikiah take a big risk.

MY REVIEW
The perfect mid-season break ender. So much is reveal, but like all great mysteries, more questions are posed. But the episode brings the whole mythology of the show to a new level. But the problem with this type of cliff hanger, you know a certain main character will survive. After all, this is NOT HBO's Game of Thrones

Episode 7: Limbo

Episode 7: Limbo November 20, 2013

When Stephen decides to have some fun with his newfound powers, Jedikiah takes extreme measures to make sure it doesn't happen again. After John and Russell return from their trip, John feels a strange tension between himself and Cara. Stephen tries to handle a new and dangerous breakout on his own, but finds himself in over his head and needing help from his fellow Tomorrow People. Meanwhile, Stephen has a moment of clarity when it comes to his father, and is more determined than ever to figure out what happened to him.

MY REVIEW
With two series to draw from (1970s BBC & 1990s NICK) this episode seems to rip off - er, um I mean - pay tribute to 1980s Teen Wolf with Michael J Fox. LOL Using powers to win at basketball, and than choosing (or being forced in this case) to have to win w/o powers....

Love triangle getting hot & heavy, but wait, how much older is Cara? But who cares, this is CW, where teen agers drink at bars w/o need for fake IDS (Have you seen Vampire Diaries LMAO)

The CW formula, cast 20-30 year olds as teens, use the teen angle to sell a show and supply angst, but other times treat them like 25 year old heroes....

Episode 6: Sorry for Your Loss

Episode 6
Sorry for Your Loss
November 13, 2013

SUMMARY (IMDB) When Stephen and Russell head out for a night of fun, they run into a potential new break-out. Stephen and Russell report back to John and Cara about the new person, but they want to keep a low profile from Ultra. Sadly, Russell learns that his dad has passed away and he is torn about whether or not he should go home. John volunteers to accompany Russell to help keep him out of trouble. Meanwhile, Jedikiah has a shocking secret that could destroy his career.

MY REVIEW
I have loved Aaron Yoo (Russell) from episode one, but this is his moment. Showing his dramatic side. Great actor!!!  I did not even recognize Aaron in openign scene...

I feel like Peyton List (Cara) is really coming into this character as well. First few episodes seemed a little forced. But that may be more an issue of the writers. She seems brilliant, calculating and impulsive - all depending on what serves the story - but inconsistent for the character.

This episode is a real tear jerker with both story lines. Sacrifice and Loss...

Episode 5: All Tomorrow's Parties

Episode 5
All Tomorrow's Parties
November 6, 2013

SUMMARY (IMDB) After Stephen breaks Ultra protocol during a training exercise, Jedikiah's mysterious boss insists on meeting Stephen. Stephen grows concerned when he learns Jedikiah is unable to protect him, so he turns to John, who is only interested for selfish reasons. Elsewhere, the Tomorrow People are desperate to go topside to a party like normal people, but John and Cara disagree on the dangerous plan. Meanwhile, Stephen makes a plan to go to Homecoming with Astrid, but when he bails on her once again, she decides to find out what he is really up to.

MY REVIEW
Did anyone not say "THIS IS A BAD IDEA?". I get cabin fever. But over foreshadowing by the writers is obviously oblivious to the characters.... Intense fight scenes. Some of the best action of the series so far...

Who is the FOUNDER? More to come...

1990's Nick Version of Tomorrow People

Here is another version of the show from 20 years ago on NICK ... How is it I never heard of this before. Have you?
Found this video of 1st two episodes on YOUTUBE

FROM IMDB The Tomorrow People are the next stage of human evolution. They can teleport, communicate by telepathy, heal with the power of thought and they are unable to kill or harm any living creature. Aided by a mysterious and ancient spacecraft buried in the sand of a Pacific island, the Tomorrow People use their powers to protect the world, while trying to keep their own existence a secret for fear of exploitation

Summary from TV.com
This is the 1990s reboot of the original 1970s series, The Tomorrow People. Creator Roger Price saw these Tomorrow People as less certain about themselves, less skilled in the use of their special abilities. Everything you loved about the original series (the music, the opening titles, the Lab, TIM and those jaunty belt buckles) are gone, replaced by a cosmopolitan cast and a spacecraft. The new Tomorrow People were the Australian Adam Newman (Kristian Schmid), American Lisa Davies (Kristen Ariza), and Briton Kevin Wilson (Adam Pearce). Kevin's cousin, Marmaduke "Megabyte" Damon (Christian Tessier) is fascinated with Kevin's powers, and helps him. Lisa is replaced by Ami Jackson (Naomie Harris) from the second season. The new series was slicker and better acted than the original, but without the original gimmicks it became just another kids-with-powers show. It lasted for three seasons. EPISODE GUIDE

Episode 4: Kill or Be Killed

Episode 4
Kill or Be Killed
Originally Aired on CW October 30, 2013

SUMMARY (IMDB)
When Ultra's most wanted, Killian McCrane (guest star JASON DOHRING), resurfaces after years of being in hiding, Stephen enlists John's help in tracking him down. John reluctantly agrees to help, but changes his mind when he learns that Killian isn't after Jedikiah as everyone suspects. Stephen, wants to help, but Cara explains that John's history with Killian, which brings back a flood of memories from John's past, is making him do something he never thought he would do again. Meanwhile, Stephen's mom, Maral (guest star SARAH CLARKE) is suspicious of his whereabouts...

MY REVIEW
Love Jason Dohring. Great character actor I first remember from Supernatural (Cronos) but of course has appeared in so many TV shows (Veronica Mars)  & Movies (Deep Impact). Writing this blog i fear giving away TOO MUCH spoiler type styff. So let me say if you have seen the episode, you know what cool revelation has been revealed. I will wait a few posts to discuss this revalation further to death.... Give me Give me more Give me more....

Episode 3: Girl, Interrupted

SUMMARY (IMDB)
Stephen plants a computer virus for sending breakout locations to the rebel stolen supercomputer Tim, but Jed sends an ambush and traps Cara. Stephen offers to inject her with Ultra's power-removing serum. Cara reveals how her powers came.

MY REVIEW / FEEDBACK
You better not kill off Cara, right? Great episode. I have not said anything yet on this subject, but the whole not being able to kill is a real convenient plot device to make the playing field level. I think in order to enjoy SciFi you have to overlook certain obvious goof ball descisions by writers. Like the whole debate, who is stronger - Superman or Hulk - it depends on who writes the story. But still I like the show. I fear a midi clorian moment explaining the natural process that prevents break outs form killing.

WORST MOMENT IN STAR WARS HISTORY
"Without the midi-chlorians, life could not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the Force. They continually speak to us, telling us the will of the Force."

The Tomorrow People-The Slaves Of Jedikiah-2of 8 (+playlist)

I love you tube. This old BBC show is typical BBC. Better writing. Decent performances. Saturday Morning Cartoon TV quality production values... LOL Especially love Star Trek style teleportation effect....

Episode 8: Thanatos

Episode 8: Thanatos December 4, 2013

SUMMARY from IMDB Stephen (Robbie Amell) is determined to uncover what he hopes is the key to finding his father, and crafts a plan with the Tomorrow People that involves getting inside Jedikiah's (Mark Pellegrino) head. Meanwhile, Cara (Peyton List) and Russell (Aaron Yoo) encounter an uninvited visitor in the subway tunnel base. Stephen takes a risky opportunity and snoops around Ultra.

MY REVIEW
So what is Thanatos? Well you have to watch the episode to find out why we have no idea yet either LOL

In the process we are introduced to a man who may know the answer (Played by 1970 series John, Nicholas Young).  Love the Tomorrow People's "Interogation" of Uncle Jedikiah. The one thing keeping this show from being too cheesy is the dark over tones and grey areas of good/evil. Every character is capable of being the bad guy in the wrong moment. Thanks to the work and influence of great graffic novelists like Frrank Miller (Watchmen), this new trend keeps a lot of would be cookie cutter shows interesting.

Wow this makes sense. Who ever makes an original TV show in America LOL

Characters
Each new series would usually introduce a new Tomorrow Person, sometimes replacing a character from the previous. These are some of the most relevant characters from the series.
  • John (Nicholas Young, series one to eight) is the leader of the Tomorrow People, and is the only TP to last through all eight series.
  • Stephen (Peter Vaughan-Clarke, series one to four) is the newest TP, who was introduced in the first story. He is often adventurous and one to take risks.
  • Carol (Sammie Winmill, series one) was the only female TP in the first series, but Sammie Winmill didn’t renew her contract for the second series. In the story, Carol's absence is attributed to the fact that she is representing Earth in the Galactic Federation.
  • Elizabeth (Elizabeth Adare, series two to eight) is Carol's replacement. She was a student teacher at Stephen's school, and when she broke out, the term for when a future Tomorrow Person is going through the stage in which he or she acquires their special powers, Stephen and John convinced her to join them.
  • Mike (Mike Holoway, series four to eight) became a TP after the others found out about him when he was using his powers to open locks, and was involved in a bank break-in. Mike turned out to be good, after all. In addition to being a Tomorrow Person, he is also the drummer in a pop band, the Fresh Hearts.
  • Ginge (Michael Standing, series one) is a sap1. He was originally a henchman of Jedikiah, a villain, but then changed to the good side, and became a friend and colleague of the Tomorrow People. When Ginge left the show, his character was replaced by Chris (Christopher Chittell), Ginge's brother.
  • TIM (voiced by Philip Gilbert, series one to eight) is very similar to HAL from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. TIM is a biological computer, who is capable of original thought, and does not require special programming. TIM is built into the ceiling of the Tomorrow People's headquarters.
On a few occasions, Philip Gilbert appeared in the series as a live character rather than a disembodied voice. He played Timus and Tikno, clones that became important allies of the TP. One of their other clones provided TIM's speech capabilities, which explains the identical voices of TIM, Timus and Tikno.
Guest Stars
The series also featured many guest stars including the following:
  • David Prowse, better known as the man in the Darth Vader suit from the Star Wars movies, the 'Green Cross Man' from a series of road safety adverts in the 1970s, and as Hotblack Desiato's bodyguard in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy television mini series.
  • Sandra Dickenson, also from the Hitchhiker television series, who played opposite her future husband Peter Davison, who later played the fifth Doctor Who.
  • Burt Kwouk who played Kato in the Pink Panther movies.
  • Trevor Bannister, familiar to British television viewers as Mr Lucas of Are You Being Served?
Gadgets
The Tomorrow People's headquarters, or The Lab as it was called, was hidden in a derelict London Underground station which they used as an epicenter for their operations, living quarters and a store in which to keep futuristic equipment such as:
  • Jaunting belts - The TP were unable to jaunt long distances without special belts which they wore at all times. These allowed them to jaunt across the world or into space. Otherwise their jaunting powers only worked for very short distances.
  • Stun guns - The TP were unable to deliberately kill and could not use serious violence. This could cause difficult situations when they encountered hostile people or aliens. The solution to this was stun guns that would knock out their enemy or enemies for a few minutes. When fired, the stun gun would make a small hissing noise and cause a burst of light.
  • AE Suits - AE means 'Adaptable to any Environment'. These were suits that covered the entire body and were complete with a helmet. In these, the Tomorrow People could breath oxygen, stay warm in a cold environment and stay cool in a hot environment. The suits could also change appearance, so as to avoid attention. Like a Babelfish, they could also translate alien languages.
Revivals
Though the show was cancelled in 1979, that was not quite the end of the Tomorrow People. In the 1990s, the British arm of the American cable television station Nickelodeon produced a reboot series of The Tomorrow People. The new series ran from 1993 to 1995. It was not accepted as well as the original as it lacked many elements of the original series such as TIM and the headquarters. However the new series did feature some strong guest actors including Christopher Lee and Jean Marsh.

Beginning in 2001, Big Finish Productions made an audio series of The Tomorrow People which featured some of the original cast-members in new adventures. Nicholas Young, Elizabeth Adare, Peter Vaughn-Clarke and Mike Holoway reprised their original roles. In the earlier releases, Philip Gilbert also starred as TIM, but after Philip Gilbert's death in 2004, TIM was replaced by Trevor Littledale.

Angus P Allan drew a comic strip version of The Tomorrow Peoplefor Look-In, a television comic magazine.

During the 1970s, five novelisations of the television series were written, though they often differed from the original story. Another four books were written during the 1990s series.

Episode 2: In Too Deep

Episode 2:
In Too Deep
1st Aired on CW October 16, 2013

SUMMARY (IMDB)
Jed sends Stephen with older partner to catch thief 17, stealing for his sick mother. Cara gives Stephen watch with chip to protect from mind-reader Jed sets on his nephew.

MY REVIEW

SO COOL! Is it me or is Nick Eversman (as the teen age break out / bank robber) trying to conjure up John Conner from T2. I was really upset when his show, MISSING (ABC with Ashley Judd) was cancelled. Talk about another great network show dying way before its time.

Things are getting intense. I think Mark Pelligrino is still playing Lucifer (CW's Supernatural). Certainly not Jacob (ABC's Lost). This character is probably the most "NORMAL" or at least mortal yet but so much more creepy....

Episode 1: Pilot

SUMMARY (IMDB)
Stephen can suddenly teleport, do telepathy and telekinesis, like the voice in his head Cara, and others living underground. His missing father was their leader. His uncle Jed heads Ultra, who find and kill them or take their powers.

MY REVIEW

Ok - THE THREE Ts - I saw this promo on TV for a new show. I was like.... I really do not have time for a new show. Plus did we not already see this at the movies called "Jumper?"...."Pusher?"... "XMEN?"

CW has come a long way. I have not like a lot of their offerings. The one exception, Supernatural was genious from day one. I was a reluctant fan of Smallville as the consumate Superman geek. I hated the show but kept coming back as they teased a flying man. The consumate idiot I waited for 10 seasons and still teared up when he finally took to the air. I think if Superman Returns was any better I would have bailed much sooner. Thank God for Man of Steel nailing it.... Oops I digress. (PS LOVE Originals. Like Vamp Diaries, but spin off takes it up a serious notch!!!)

Well after watching the pilot I am hooked. And I look forward to see where this new show heads... The show is a little fru fru compared to Arrow. But all the elements are there. Better writing, casting and directing that most of their earlier shows. So far my favorite is Russell (Played by Aaron Yoo). I am always a sucker for comedic relief.

Buts lets face it, who would not want the THREE Ts.
